Update on inquiry

We have been busy finding hazards in the school. With our Room 6 buddies we found solutions to the hazards and wrote letters to Mrs Heath. We showed our amazing ideas in a whole school model.

Dear Mrs Heath,

We are writing this letter to bring your attention to a step in front of Room  7. The step ends at the end of Room 7, and starts at the start of the corridor in between Room 6 and Room 7.

It is a hazard because if you weren't looking you could trip and hit your head on one of the poles that hold up the shelter. The step is a dangerous hazard, it could really hurt someone. Once I have even hurt myself on it I cut my toe and I couldn't walk very well.

Our solution is to plant a garden right in front of the step because then no one will get hurt. This will not cost any money, because there are some left over plants beside the strawberry patch. There are also left over plants at my house. The people that can plant the plants could be Eliza and Tasmin.

Yours sincerely,
Tasmin and Eliza

Dear Mrs Heath,

People are running around buildings. They are running around corners and bumping into other kids and doorways when they open. Some children are slipping over.

I think that we should paint some roads around the buildings on the concrete. Where there is a doorway, there would be a crossing, so that people can walk out safely. If we had a road children can walk up one side and down the other. The road would be cool because it will look nice and keep people safe by having fun too.

I am asking for permission to paint a road and a grass area outside classrooms so that people can walk and not run around classrooms.

Yours sincerely,

Rossco Rowley

Dear Mrs Heath,

I am writing this letter to bring your attention to the  yellow climbing ladder that goes up to to the fort.

This is a hazard because you could hurt yourself by slipping. The bars are very slippery when it rains.

My solution is to buy some grip tape to put on the yellow bars that go up to the fort, so that they will not be slippery any more.

If you have any time to buy grip tape and ask Doug to put it on thankyou. The cost of the grip tape that we found is five dollars.

Measurement

We poured cups of water into (clean) nappies. First we measured the length of the nappy before pouring water into the nappies. We worked out how many milliliters (ml) are in each nappy because there is 250ml in a cup. We put the nappies on the scales and measured how heavy it it is.

Does 500ml weigh 500g?

Our Mathematicians thought that 1L weighs 1kg and 500ml weighs 500g. Were they correct?

Pop ups are dangerous to your computer.

Pop ups are unwanted messages on our computers or devices. They come up randomly on your devices screen and try and to get you to click on it.

They sometimes lead you to inappropriate pictures or videos. If you click on them, they may also lead to viruses on your device. If this happens, your device is broken and you might lose all of your work.

If a pop up comes onto your screen you must tell a grown up immediately. Do not click on the pop up, otherwise it may lead you to inappropriate websites, videos, pictures or viruses.

When a pop up appears you must tell an adult immediately, so it does not harm you or your device.

Independent writing

As independent writers in Room 2 we need to use a model, check that we understand what the model is and how it will help us and check our goals.

Brody, Gretchen and Ruby are going to share how they helped themselves be independent writers.
